Medical Hair Loss Therapy

At Mollura Medical Hair Restoration, we offer a full array of non-surgical hair loss therapy options for men and women to round out our suite of hair restoration solutions. During your initial one-on-one consultation, Dr. Mollura will discuss all the surgical and non-surgical options to determine the right solution for you.

Hair loss is a very personal experience, and as such, every case is different. For some individuals, surgical hair restoration may not be a viable option. Others may be interested in taking preventative measures to slow hair loss and reduce the impact of hereditary factors. Non-surgical measures can also work hand-in-hand with surgical procedures to promote hair health and improve your overall results.

Propecia®

Propecia® (finasteride) is a very effective, FDA-approved treatment for male pattern baldness that works by blocking the hormone that causes hair loss. Designed specifically for men, Propecia® works best to prevent hair loss on the top and middle front of the head.

Propecia®, acts as a DHT blocker, stopping the formation of Dihydrotestosterone almost immediately. The typical result is a decrease in the level of hair shedding that can be seen in as little as three months. Men who forgo this hair loss treatment will continue to lose their hair.

At Mollura Medical, Dr. Mollura often administers Propecia® in conjunction with a hair transplant procedure because it successfully slows future hair loss. With hair loss under control, his patients are better able to manage their own hair restoration plans.

Regardless of whether you decide to have hair transplant surgery, Propecia® should be considered because it is proven to successfully slow further hair loss.

Rogaine

Minoxidil, under the brand name Rogaine, was the first medication for the treatment of hair loss to be approved by the FDA. Minoxidil works by increasing the growth cycle of the hair follicle, which improves the diameter, length, and overall quality of hair. This treatment is applied directly to the scalp and is available over the counter in concentrations of 5% (for men) and 2% (for women).

Although Minoxidil achieves the greatest results in the crown, it can also improve the quality of fine hair on other areas of the scalp. Rogaine has its maximum impact over the first two years, after which its effectiveness gradually decreases. Minoxidil is a very effective solution for slowing the rate of hair loss, and is especially viable for younger patients who are not yet candidates for hair transplants.

Laser Hair Therapy

At Mollura Medical, we provide access to Laser Hair Caps that can be used in the comfort of your own home. Our FDA approved Laser Comb is a compact version of the large laser therapy machines used by hair clinics around the world. This easy-to-use, non-invasive product emits cool, therapeutic low-level lasers to stimulate hair, increase its thickness, and create a fuller appearance.

Low-level lasers enhance hair growth by increasing circulation in the scalp, stopping the progression of hair loss, and stimulating new hair growth. The teeth of this unique comb part the hair, allowing the laser light to more easily reach the scalp in areas of existing hair. The hair follicles respond to the laser light, causing new hair to grow. In addition to promoting hair growth, a Laser Hair Comb may also lead to a reduction in dandruff and other scalp irritations.

We often recommend low-level laser therapy to complement our surgical hair restoration solutions. The Laser Hair Comb we offer is completely safe for post-operative use, and it can very effectively minimize the shedding of transplanted hair.

Cosmeceuticals

We also offers a variety of cosmetic products to complement our suite of hair restoration solutions. These products are applied to the scalp or hair to improve the appearance of thinning hair. The result is a very convincing illusion of fuller hair. Cosmetic products like Toppik, Covre’, and Prothik can mask hair loss while requiring very little commitment or investment.
